Weakness as hidden strength is a foundational truth of human existence! I've had this conversation with several pastors (to a man, would-be comedians), and it's amazing how much success, in all walks of life, hangs on us being able to embrace - and ultimely lead - with our faults.
“Where you stumble, there lies your treasure”
- Joseph Campbell
And, comedians....is there anything they can't do? George Carlin had a genius bit on our inherent bias:
“Anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac.”
That is the sort of creative thinking they don't teach you at school. Just because it may have led to more violence doesn't mean it wasn't worth a shot lol
I did almost exactly the same thing but in college! I befriended some dudes who spent the bulk of their time bulking up and nobody messed with me. One of the funniest things my buddy Manuel and I did. We ended up at some party where we knew nobody and we pretended to get into an argument where I threatened to fight him and he backed down like he was scared of me. We got some hilarious looks.
How I once dealt with a bully in high school:
Bully: Gimme your money.
Me: No. Eat a dick.
I think it was a lot easier for me to say that because I was standing up to a boy. Not like he actually would've hit me. 😂
Omg, that is beautiful. In hindsight, I bet mine would have backed down had I just hit him with that level of disrespect out of the gate.
I still like your way better. Much more strategic. Talk about long-term thinking!
“I started to see another way out. I sought out classmates who were bigger than me and enjoyed violence.” 😂 Epic one, Stew!!
Lmao, this was easily the most fun sentence to write. Almost went with "enjoyed acquainting their fists with faces."

Beautifully said :)
I do like the idea of a young Stew acting like a mob boss
In an alternate universe, that could have been pretty badass...
Damn, this is the post I wish I had read when I was in primary school. I would try to befriend the bully. Never worked. 😂

Staging a fake fight is absolutely brilliant 😂
